At St Thomas More, we understand that a high-quality geography education will enable pupils to become fluent in the fundamentals of the subject, develop the ability to apply knowledge and skills to their understanding of the world around them. We want our pupils to develop an appreciation for their surroundings, both near and far, and to understand the relevance of it to their world and everyday life.
We are developing our curriculum to be include more enquiry-based learning so that children are given the opportunity to generate questions that they want answered and to present their findings in a range of different ways. As they progress through the school, children will draw on previous learning, not only from geography lessons but other related subjects and combine that with new skills to complete a range of tasks.
We are mindful that our pupils need to be aware of the cultural diversity which exists within and beyond their local area and actively seek opportunities to deepen our pupils’ awareness, understanding and tolerance of the multicultural world in which we live.
